Phil Gordon's Space Saver Poker Table(folding poker table)

Phil Gordon from Ireland wanted to build a folding poker table that he could put in the closet for storage before and after games.  What he came up with is pretty impressive.  Lets have a look.

Construction Photos

Folding Poker Table Picture A

A - First 8x4 sheet of 1/2 inch ply with the corners rounded off.  This is actually just under 8' long, as the room it was going into isn't that big.  The full length is actually about 7'8".

B - First cut, for the base and outside rail piece.

Folding Poker Table Picture C

C - Cut the centre section out and put the first hinge on.

D - The hinge in action!

Folding Poker Table Picture E

E - The hinge in action!

Folding Poker Table Picture F

F - Both hinges in place.

Folding Poker Table Picture G

G - The folded table, looks a bit off at the top because it is not terrible straight standing.  I was working alone too, hence the brush holding it up...

Folding Poker Table Picture H

H - Foam underlay stuck on for padding.

Folding Poker Table Picture I

I - The full rail, before cutting.

Folding Poker Table Picture J

J - The rail cut in 2.  I somehow managed to leave 1 piece about an inch longer than the other, but it is not noticable when the table is complete.

Folding Poker Table Picture K

K - Padding the rail.

Folding Poker Table Picture L

L - Upholstering the rail.

Folding Poker Table Picture M

M - Upholstering the rail.

Folding Poker Table Picture N

N - I did not have the velveteen until the very end, so this was just placing the rail to make sure it fit etc.

Folding Poker Table Picture O

O - Both rail pieces in place, so that I can measure for the 2 removable blocks.

Folding Poker Table Picture P

P - Rail section in place, I thought I had taken a shot of them in production, but I mustn't have.

Folding Poker Table Picture Q

Q - 1 removable section.  Very awkward to upholster as the piece is so small and full of angles.

Folding Poker Table Picture R

R - The velveteen arrives eventually and is spread out to get rid of the creases.

Folding Poker Table Picture S

S - Almost done, stapled the velveteen in place and screwed the rail on properly.

Folding Poker Table Picture T

T - The finished article, without the rail sections.

Folding Poker Table Picture U

U - The finished article, with the rail sections.

Folding Poker Table Picture V

V - Looking good!

Folding Poker Table Picture W

W - The big test, will it fold without ripping/wrinkling the centre velveteen?

Folding Poker Table Picture X

X - It works!  The velveteen stretches enough at the bottom where it is stapled, and just lifts a bit in the centre.  Once flattened out again, it just stretches back into place as the table flattens.

It looks like the table came out really nice Phil.  Now all you have to do is stop pushing 77 against AA for all of your chips haha.
