Here at BYOPT we're constantly on the lookout for new and interesting products.  As a result of our recent search, we bring you our latest experiment.  This is an old poker table that we reupholstered with some trial vinyl that I though looked really cool.  The vinyl has a really unique look and beautiful stretch to it making it extremely easy to work with.  It is also a bit thicker than the premium Whisper vinyl and our standard rail vinyl.  The finished product is one of the best looking rails I've ever seen, and certainly the nicest I have ever upholstered.  The look and feel of this stuff is amazing!  Needless to say, we have worked out a deal with the manufacturer and plan to have Rogue vinyl in the shop in seven colors by the middle of April.  This is the good news.

The not-so-good news is that the playing surface was not as much of a success.  We tested out some Royal Velveteen, which sounds impressive by the name of it.  The look and feel of the stuff does the name proud.  It does look and feel like it should be draped over the shoulders of royalty.  The drawback is that the cards stop dead in their tracks.  Trading look and feel for functionality is not something we are willing to do so the Royal Velveteen gets two thumbs down from us.  At nearly $100 to upholster the table in it, there was strong consideration to throw a third thumb down, but that seemed like beating a dead horse.

The conclusion.  Rogue Vinyl is outstanding.  The look, feel, and ease of application make it my new favorite vinyl.  The Royal Velveteen, while soft and beautiful, comes at too high a price when you look at the actual dollar cost and the loss of functionality.
